I’m finally posting the details of our little living room makeover. We didn’t make too many changes but the changes we did make are certainly making the heart of our home much more comfortable for all. For those that are familiar with our living space, you may remember that we had a jute rug. Well I am very happy to say that we finally said goodbye to the jute and replaced it with something less maintenance and more comfortable. I find my girls laying on the floor now, something they hardly ever did when we had our jute rug, and getting up without having to be shaken in order to get all of the jute fibers off of them. We replaced our jute rug with a viscose rug from Pottery Barn. It’s so comfortable and doesn’t show foot traffic, which is so important for this space as it gets a lot of that.
Our old sofa had seen its days. While the bones of the sofa are still very strong, the upholstery needed some tlc so off to storage she went. While we save our pennies to make her new again, we wanted replace her with something that was family friendly. I have been eyeing the sofas from Sixpenny for a long time and was excited when they came out with a size that worked for our space. Our sofa is the Neva Sofa 72‘. They have many fabric options to chose from, which nicely accommodates any space. We decided on washed linen in corn silk. What I love about the sofa is that it is not only soft and cozy but the covers can be taken off and washed. And if there is a stain that just won’t come out, you can simply order new covers and not a whole new sofa! With kiddos, this was the “IT” factor for us. Especially for this room and space. This room is the place we gather most as it sits center to everything. It is right off the front entry and dinning room, hello dirty feet and hands that just stuffed a piece of pizza in the mouth. So cushion covers that can be washed easily and still look the same and/or replaced was reason enough for me to sign the that line and click, pay now!
I am still unsure what to do about the gallery wall. I have been gathering art prints for awhile now and switched out a few art pieces. For now it works but I’m still debating if I should go large scale. Any thoughts?! Would love to hear what you think! The prints you see are a blend from Homegoods, thrift finds, my girl’s art work, Clare Elssener, and photographs.
Our coffee table is handmade from Bloom which you can find here. I love the evolution of this table so so much. To learn more, take a peek here.
What I wanted for this space is for it to be family friendly and comfortable but something that offered a nice canvas for me to be able to switch things out when I got bored. I love that I can easily play around with decorative pillows and switch out art prints that could easily change the style + feel of the space.
